Short History
For those of you who don’t know my older photographs here are a few examples to get an idea where this exploration started. I first played with this line of thought as a sophomore in my Basic Photography course. The photographs at the time were simply a sketch of a much larger idea. During my Junior Independent study I started drawing on my body using primarily permanent marker. Each drawing was composed of various circle patterns. Much like the dot paintings of the Australian Aboriginees I used the variation of circles to map stories based off of my body’s geography. The color, weight, density and movement of the circles were all considered during the drawing process.

After drawing on the body for a semester I enrolled in some sculpture classes to continue my studies. Rather than just drawing on the surface of my skin, I wanted to find a way to imprint patterns to create a map. This lead me to begin tying or wrapping materials to my body. As I worked the process of wrapping and releasing my body afterwards became incredibly important.
